Selection Mode

modeselection is the default state of the application. Think of it like your operating system’s file explorer: clicking selects items, you can multi-select, move, duplicate and perform actions on items. In contrast, modeedit behaves like a text editor across all visible columns.

If you’re in Edit Mode, you can return to Selection Mode by clicking outside the tasks, clicking the validation button in the floating menu, or using the keyboard

You can double-click an item to enter Edit Mode or press Enter.

Enter edit mode.

Creates a new item below the current selection and enters Edit Mode.

Creates a child of the selected item in the column to the right and enters Edit Mode.

CtrlEnter

When starting with an empty file or when no item is selected, pressing creates a new root item and enters Edit Mode.

Select an Item:

Select an item with a left click.

Navigate with Keyboard:

Select the item above.
Select the item below.
Select the item to the left.
Select the item to the right.
Select the first item in the column.
Home
Select the last item in the column.

Add to Selection (Ctrl/Cmd + Click):

Use this to select non-contiguous items. Each click toggles the item in the selection.

Extend Selection:

With Mouse:

Creates a range selection from your current selection to the clicked item.

Extend the selection to include an item.
Shift

With Keyboard:

Extend the selection upward.
Shift
Extend the selection downward.
Shift

Select All:

Select all items in a column.

Mark tasks as complete or incomplete with the mouse (using the checkbox at the beginning of the line) or keyboard.

Change the finished status using the mouse.
Toggle the finished status.
Space

You can delete items (they are moved to Trash and can be restored).

You can copy, cut, and paste tasks:

Copy the selection.

Cut the selection.

Paste items.

You can also duplicate the selection with the keyboard.

Duplicate the selection.

You can move items using drag and drop.

Hold while dragging to duplicate instead of move.

Duplicate the selection by dragging.

Press while dragging to cancel.

Cancel the drag action.

You can also move your selection using keyboard shortcuts.

Move the selection up.

Move the selection down.

Move the selection to the top of the column.

Move the selection to the bottom of the column.

If you want to change an item’s parent with the keyboard, you can use:

Move selection to a new parent.

It is also possible to move an element within the hierarchy. Note that this is always done relative to the item above it, as in a classic tree view. If you select the first element of a column, you cannot move it. But if you select the second element and indent it, it will become a child of the parent item.

All actions in Selection or Edit Mode can be undone and redone.
